Another year gone

Where did that year go?

It's that time again for Mary's birthday. Some lovely snaps here of the day we had from an early lunch at, again, our steamed bun restaurant and then to Grand Hyatt and MezzaNine. Original plan was outdoor bar on Orchard, but refurbs caused that to be closed, shame! BUT we had a blast at Mezzanine.

What made it very special was that Steve and Chloe came, Dougy came, Barrie and Bing came, the girls "finally" arrived about 2 hours late and Mr Coleman and Mr Coleman Jnr came all the way from UK to join us.

What a lovely bunch of friends and what a lovely lovely day - full of fun.

Enjoy the snaps! Happy Happy Birthday Mary. xxxxx

That 70"s show .......

Mr Rainey turned a new age and decided I'll have a party, a themed party, a 70's themed party.

And here are the results, dear me!

Funny thing is Mary loved it, loved the outfit, loved the hair, loved the eye lashes, loved the boots etc etc.

Pretty amazing bearing in mind nocked up in a matter of minutes at Kallang fancy dress. Our theme was "Starsky & Crutch", oh my goodness. A few things:

* I thought I was going to get shot by secret police of Singapore as I was carrying a gun,
* No one knew it was us, walked in and had to introduce ourselves to people who knew us,
* We also had lunar eclipse experience, amazing to see from Apac not daytime UK,
* We had VERY interesting taxi rides, as you'd imagine,
* Mary absolutely LOVED the experience, I just wanted to get her home and keep the wig and boots on, ha ha,
* The party was at a 7 days old bar, happy birthday Wheels and Wieners, we had a blast!
* David had to eat a 15", yes 15" hot dog, with chips and chili in 15 minutes,
* We met some lovely lovely new friends, thanks to the party!
* At midnight it turned in to Mary's birthday as well, happy birthday beautiful!

Happy Birthday Mr Rainey!!!!!!!!

He does it again!!!!!

Cloaked in secrecy was this years Eton House Christmas Concert 2011. Oliver had a part, but was sworn in, not to tell us anything. We had to provide a costume of white shorts or trousers and a red or white shirt. Interesting, but not really surprising I suppose as both are sort of Xmasy colours.

We knew he had been practicing hard.

We knew he came home with some white, silky, frilly shirt, with a red bow tie.

We knew we had to drop him off at 1745.

We knew we had to be in and seated by 1900 - the "hard" start time.

What we did not know was that he was the joint host/MC of the whole event. He opened by welcoming everyone, the teachers, and the event itself. Then after each class performance he had to "gap-fill" awaiting the next class performance to be readied. Doesn't he look smart? The only downer for him was, can you guess??????? Yep makeup!!!!!!

I asked him was it all scripted, to which he replied "no I had to ad lib", or as he called it "improv theatre." Amazing right, my 10 year old is talking about "improv theatre". He said that Sangeeta had recently taught them this at his acting workshop he attends every Saturday morning.

So basically picture this. A class exits the stage and he and Mehei (his co-host) come on and have to engage/distract the audience for 5 minutes or so. Many videos for this blog, as it's all about the delivery of Ollie and Mehei which you cannot see or appreciate in a still photograph.

It goes like this.

The opening and introductions;

He pulled people from the audience to ask them questions re their first Xmas. Not brilliant sound quality on the first video, but I wanted to show you that he was on stage, at floor level and in front of about 350 people and look him perform!

He came over to ask Amy a question, about her favorite toy. Just check out how he's interacting with the audience when she answered Barbie. By the way again ALL unrehearsed;

He was being funny when working with his audience, this little skit being a favorite of mine, when the gentleman was asked what he thought of the previous song, and guy said great or something. Ollie then came up with this funny funny sketch giving loads of other adjectives he could have used;

He was seriously entertaining, pushing himself to limits unseen. This bit of acting his hilarious when Mehei says we're about to see professional singers and he goes crazily excited because that might be Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber etc, So funny Ollie;

He even had to quickly take off shoes, and his waist coat, tie a red ribbon his head and be part of his class performance of Robbie Williams' "Angels".

How does he remember all the lines, moves, sequencing and be able to then ad lib is beyond me, but he nailed it!

He was truly brilliant. Mary and I could not believe it, just brilliant. He had such confidence in front of so many people young and old, he commanded the audience, he truly engaged the audience.

He even had to announce car registration numbers that needed to move because they were blocking the way. And boy did he do that with authority!

So to the end of the concert, which really was great fun and the kids were just fantastic with the singing, the dancing and of course the really cool costumes. Mr Small, Principal gets up to thank the organisers, helpers etc. Whilst on stage he starts along the lines of; "And I have to say two people who need a special mention were those that had to engage the audience, command the audience, ensure smooth flowing of the concert. That is a really tough job for someone to do, but to have two children of 10 years old perform the task is exceptional." He then called Ollie and Mehei to the stage to rapturous applause and cheers.

It didn't stop there. Walking from the theatre we were stopped every 5 steps or so by someone wishing to say how wonderful he was and how he should be on stage or TV. Miss Atima his previous teacher had said that they were looking for an adult to do it but no one would, so she thought of Ollie and Mehei. They had to do a short audition and apparently the producer was sold immediately! That's how the job became theirs.

I don't know how many blogs I have now closed off with that proud Dad moment. But this is categorically one of them. Ollie you amazed so many people, made so many proud of what you achieved and how mature you were in your performance. I LOVED it and would watch you again and again, I am so proud of you Ollie - Love you Daddy xxx

Amy following in Ollie's footsteps

Oh my goodness, what a weekend.

So Friday night was Ollie's truly wonderful performance during the Eton House, Christmas Concert. Early Saturday am we had to drop off Amy at her school for her final practice ahead of the Wee Care School Christmas Concert.

It was just SOOOOOOOOOOO Cute. She did so so well as well. Literally following in her older brother's footsteps in terms of shining in the limelight on the stage.

Before they started all the parents were ushered into a private room away from the kids, and I managed to get this lovely shot of Ollie with Charlie - JT's and Elizabeth's wee one!

Again this was all cloaked in secrecy, as no parents were allowed to see practicing and the costumes, we just had to provide a white t-shirt, some beige shorts and some black leggings. You'll get the idea from the video clips.

I have to say, even though I am her Dad, that she was the best on the day, she really was the one that stood out. She knew all the moves and the lyrics to the songs. Just so adorably cute.

It was all about places they had "visited" in their school days. I love how they bring in the temporary curtain to allow all the little munchins to enter the stage area and prepare themselves. We had a few drop outs who were over-awed by the experience and the number of parents watching them perform. A shame, but some did come back supported by their teacher to put in a performance.

First up was Hawaii - just look at that little costume and the way she's playing with the shells to make the clonk clonk noise. One of the senior teachers, we found out, was from Hawaii so hence the relevance of this little song.

Then we went off to hear them sing their Mandarin song. all about bringing people together. I LOVED the dance for this one. Miz/Yuko/Haruko - look at the flag round her neck, yes chosen was Japanese for Amy.

Then we went to, yes, Japan. Amazing. I think you'll see perhaps fame got to her and she went a bit silly for this one. Ha Ha, that's OK Amy, it was such good fun to watch this and to see you having such fun with your friends and teachers.

Finally, and ABSOLUTELY the favourite of mine was Shakira's "whacka whacka" dance. Just loved this one with the little bum wiggles and it was lovely that all the teachers came and danced along to for the finale. Just adorable. She's been practicing this one hard, in bath, shower, swimming pool, bedroom - you name it everywhere. Amy the practice paid off so much darling!

The kids did go back to perform the Hawaiin song once more I believe for the DVD. So I snuck in and got some lovely still photos to go with the video clips.

It ended with all the kids receiving a rosette with their name on it. That is now proudly displayed on my bedroom wall along with some of Amy's art work.

We then had some lunch and the kids all came in very proud and happy with themselves and played and played. Sometimes using Ollie, in his words, as "a human toy", nice work Ollie!

The final photo is a lovely one of Amy with her teacher Miss Bianca (originally when Amy joined Miss Bacon).

What a wonderful wonderful Saturday morning, thanks to Amy, the other kids and the teachers at Polliwogs. My goodness, a gushy, proud father sending big hugs and kisses to Amy, well done my darling - MORE please. xxxx

The third and final session

Here she is again, modeling superstar Amy.

I think this is her 3rd and final photo shoot, and my goodness I think she looks gorgeous. So here is a before and after, well during application and after. Check that face of bliss as she is having make up applied, ha ha!

A new make up lady this time, who has made her look so very beautiful - although Amy even without the make up babe you are a little stunner. Also how old does she look here, way more than 3 and a half, dear me.

Daddy is going to have fun when you're all grown up Amy.
