Check out the new place!!!

OK much to do folks, but we handover Monday and plan the BIG move on 3rd - yep Thursday next week - Phewy!!! We were there today after doing some final shopping for Starhub stuff and bits and pieces. Non-stop on that front at the moment it seems. Movers are booked. Phone and TV lines all scheduled. We currently live in a condo of boxes, so we cannot wait to get down there and get those unpacked and start living afresh. But so far we love the place, and we love Siglap big time.

Quick run through today of the 'as-is' - a little messy (apologies) as we had cleaners in today and also me doing some odd jobs before the onslaught on Thursday.

I'll do another of the 'after' position too - hopefully it will look cool and homely!!!

Below is the view from the door to the balcony, looking back to the upstairs - it is a duplex so we have 2 floors now. The door to the right is to mine/Mary/Jude bedroom and Amy's. Both en-suite. Nice an airy with windows able to open at both ends of the room.

The master bedroom. The little alcove you see to the window is where baby Jude is going to be located with his cot and changing table etc.

Amy becomes an even bigger girl with her own bedroom and bathroom now - wow you lucky thing!

Now the view the other way back looking to the other corner. On the other side of the window you see is our balcony. A little bigger than we currently have, maybe enough even for my 1st BBQ in Singapore. Here's hoping!

Or little flight of stairs to our downstairs. Again all very lighty.

Our new dining room. Not bad huh. I think we have another 2-300 square feet in this place. Door to immediate left is kitchen, then guest powder room, then Glenda and Ollie's bedrooms.

Glenda's is the only room with no en-suite, so she'll be sharing the guest powder room. Much more space than now though. We think she'll like this.

Ollie gets his own room and en-suite now. Also it seems the wi-fi may extend to the rooms in the new place. I don't think we'll ever see him again now.

This now is the view from the 'wet-kitchen' in to the main kitchen. No more galley kitchen, bit more space, my new fridge, new oven and blender - few treats for the move in.

A little old style in here but we'll make it work, with a few spruce ups and the like.
Behind where I stand is a wet kitchen, storage area, our new washing machine and another bathroom.

Wish us luck everyone - bit week ahead. More to come!!!

Just like Storage Wars...???

Have you ever seen that show?
I am hooked.
Barry Weiss is my favourite character.

It's kind of one of those American 'TV reality shows", following a load of guys travelling across the US buying up abandoned storage lockers. They have to bid against each other, and then the exciting bit is opening the locker and rummaging through the boxes and things to hopefully fine treasure valued beyond they paid.

OK this is not exactly the same - but my first time to an auction at my mate's place - EXPAT Auctions. You should really go if you need any furniture here in Singapore. Here is my mate Rob Pendergrast at the helm as it were, owner and auctioneer.

1/4 to 1/3 of the price of what you would normally pay. It is actually great fun. Shame on this trip though I missed out and we had to dash to meet some other friends back on East Coast - I will be back there next weekend though. How to get there Level 1, Unit 1, CitiLink Warehouse Complex, 102F Pasir Pajang Road. Bring your cards and cash, and check out previews of what is on offer at www.expatauctions.com.sg

So the extended point of this blog.

For me today, I really felt like my favourite guy from Storage Wars, Barry. If only there was the others there to contend with - man that would be fun. I think I held my cool - "wait for it, wait for it, look at the other bidders, check the faces, wait for it..."

Then STRIKE like a cobra from some hidden undergrowth!!!

"HERE!!!"

Just like my mate Barry Weiss would do!!!
My Hero in the auction world - ha ha!!!

The Great Escape Part IV or is Part V now??? Not sure...

Actually you know I don't know why I call it The Great Escape as basically we're tunnelling out of Singapore only to put a big U-turn in the tunnel to try and come back every 30 sodding days.

Yes my friends Singapore has started to do that to us AGAIN. We now have to exit Mary AND Baby Jude now every 30 days. Very frustrating and ultimately very expensive for us as a family. We still await MP appeal No3, and we still have all the stuff going on in Philippines which just seems to be taking for ever.

Any way to the point of this. Yep we have to exit again to get our 30 days extension.

So let's have some fun doing it and off we jolly well go to Bintan, and a new place for us Nirwana Resort - actually part of Nirwana Gardens complex. And very nice it was too. I will be doing some separate food blog stuff for the food experiences and all that, so shall keep this on to exactly that - the family (funny for those that don't know I now write a recipe column for a magazine here and have also been asked now to do restaurant reviews - ha ha - they call me a food author - classic).

Couple of slight issues with Nirwana that I gave not experienced before when staying in Bintan (maybe though because we have 5 of us when travelling though now and therefore bigger room), was that we rocked up on the usual 1110 ferry, which lands at 1110 local time due to hour difference. We get to the hotel circa midday to be told room is not ready until 1500. So what do we do for 3 hours with no suitcase yet, a baby, 2 kids, buggy, back pack, baby bag and Amy's wheelie??? Hmmmm. So not a brilliant start to the experience of a new venue. But they did get us in at 1400 eventually - to a lovely family room, on ground floor, 2 seconds from beach/pool/massage etc. NICE!!!

It was also p*ssing down when we got there, We have had no rain for 3 months, we go away for like 2 days and BOOM the heavens open - "well that is just typical isn't it..."

But we still had fun, we liked the resort, we had some brilliant food, and some laughs - and hey we got back in to Singapore and we got another 30 days grace for Mary and Baby Jude. Not ideal but better than nothing in my book!!!

Some more on our wee trip for you to hopefully enjoy.

As I said we arrived to pouring rain and no room - OK off to lunch we went, bags in tow. A nice little affair, mixed bag of Indonesia and Western. Not bad. Back up to reception to sit and wait it out, both the weather and getting a room. Getting a little twitchy when at 1400 we had a room.

Off we jolly well trot to unpack, and now get changed as the sun started to peak through. To the beach says I. Ollie notices a 'watch out for tar on the beach' sign, and yep there was loads of it, small slicks crashing up to the beach, a bit whiffy too and specks of it all over the sand. So not much swimming in the sea done, but the gang still had fun.

Still beautiful curving beaches of powdery coral based sand. Ollie and Amy rand ahead to allow me to show you that. It was indeed very beautiful.

180 degree spin, and I spot this real cool palm tree, literally growing out at 40 degrees, beautiful against the now blue sky back-drop.

Far away is the place we stayed at last time we forayed to Bintan - Banyan Tree Resort. That place was priceless as in bloody good but also same as in expensive. Looks lovely from here.

Ollie makes sand balls - very boyish.
Amy drawers out hopscotch 'pitches' - very girlish.

And she's off.
Hopscotch, cross-stitch, miss-match - hey whatever it is called she had fun fun fun.

Mary and Jude now enter the photos.
My wee-man's first trip oversees and literally it was as we came by ferry.
He had great sea legs, better than his Mum.
It seems he is a natural traveller and actually only got grumpy when we 'stopped'.

He sure is an 'eyes wide open' child - absorbing any and everything going on.

See he couldn't even look at the camera when I asked him, I think he was looking at Ollie and Amy.

The view now down the beach. My bigger gang now all on the beach for the first time together overseas. Gonna need a mini bus soon to cart us all around.

My turn, my turn.
Yeah yeah alright - I can here what you are saying...

He's 45 and wearing shorts that a teenager should be wearing. He is a father after all, a father of three in fact. Goodness me he should show some respect to his age and act accordingly.

Nah - sod that!!!

Me and Baby Jude - beach time with Daddy. He is awake I promise!!!

Amy now decides she wants to do Bunjy - wow brave little thing.

Sorry Ollie I have to...

Ollie also wanted to do it. BUT, can you guess?
Yep he is too "big" to do it now.
Basically they had no harness that would fit round his tummy - ha ha ha!!!
We did have a giggle - but he stormed off. Sorry matey!!!

She really got the hang of this.
But every now and then soared a little too high.

"Stop, stop I want to stop..."
"OK let's do it again..."

She had a ball.

Wow that is high.
We tried to get her doing back-flips, but for time No1 that was a no no.
Fair enough Amy - well done for what you did hun.

"Is it a bird?"
"Is it a plane?"
"No it's SuperAmy..."

I am really not 100% though if she was enjoying herself...

What do you think?
Yep I agree.

Jude watched on intently as his sister bounced all over the place.

Jude...
Hello Jude...
Can you hear me Jude...
Blink if you can...
Anything mate,
move an eyebrow...

OK, and "Oooooohhhh" will do mate!!!
Phew was worried there for a minute.

Then it was trampoline time for Ollie and Amy.

Both off the ground.
Amy looks like some Indian Guru, levitating thanks to Ollie's bouncing.

Off to the pool to cool.
Washing feet with petrol to get off the tar.
Few drinks poolside with the kids, including one of the best Bloody Mary's ever.
Great food that night at the Japanese restaurant 2 minutes walk from our gaff - Rin - but more of that on food blog.
A nice early night - refreshed.

Oh shit moment in the morning though - the day we are to sail back home.
BOOM goes a storm.
A bugger.

I spot a beautiful occurrence outside on the roof of our balcony though as the storm starts to pass.
I was outside and noticed loads of poo piling up in the corner.
Either Ollie got lost in the middle of the night and could not find the loo or something has a nest.

Phew it was the latter.

A House Martin family had set up above our balcony door.
So I set the camera to sports mode and snapped away showing some of the best below.

A little nest with I think 2 or 3 babies in it.
Mum would swoop around with Dad chasing flies and insects, the whoosh in to the balcony to cough up what they had caught (literally) and would rest there for 1 or 2 seconds to feed a few mouths, then dive back out for the every continuing hunt for more food.

Humbling to watch.
Even more humbling because I am about 4 feet away wearing a bright orange t-shirt.
Clearly I had to keep very still.

Look at this - Mum is feeding baby.
I showed Amy, and she said:
"But Mum doesn't stick her head down Jude's throat when she's feeding him...?"

(I'm joking, I'm joking)

I love the one below.
She has dispatched the load and flap she's off.
A mother back in flight and baby in the nest with insect in beak.
Love it.

Remember that orange t-shirt?
I moved once and straight away she spun and looked straight at me one time when she landed.
Sorry Mum, you're chicks are safe with me.

Blimey reminds me of my youth - I used to say that to all the Mum's...

Our last lunch.
Fusion style.
Happy Families.
Happy Days.

Jude seriously having a whale of a time.
Squealing and giggling - but why???

Yep the other two were going bananas for him.
Sorry Ollie I only got one of Amy - remember he got tired from laughing so much.
Well done you two - you sure know how to make Baby Jude the smiler he is.

Luxury on the way home.
Emerald Class.
Yeah Baby.
And this was it on a brand new ferry.
It was like a flipping lounge - LOVED it.
So so cool, nice and relaxing ahead of the panic that may lay ahead.

Nice look Ollie!!!

Jude clearly has his sea legs firmly sorted.
He loves a trip on a boat this one.

Well Jude get used to it pal.
Because mate until we do indeed get things sorted, we'll be doing a trip every sodding 30 days.

The Great Escape Part V - a release coming to your screens and a theatre near you soon.
Watch this space readers!!!

A new friend joins the Anakis Family

Unfortunately Mary, Jude and I are back to square one. The same we were at almost 18 months ago now. Yep they are officially classed as Filipino tourists and have to exit the country every 30 days until we can sort the sh*tty situation out. Believe that is work in progress. Ahhhhhh!!!!

So because of that we are off to Indonesia tomorrow for one night.

So because of that we will miss the engagement party for Little Gina and our new friend in the Anakis family - Claudio. Of Florence, Italy origins and now residing in Boston. A very nice chap it has to be said. Many congratulations to you both.

So because of that we decided to all meet up at Joe's on East Coast for a slap up celebratory meal. And the naughty couple picked up the bill. Thank you both SO much. Wonderful night thanks!!! We just hope tomorrow is as much fun for you, and again sorry we miss it.

(Claudio - careful my friend - the Anakis are CRAZY!!!)

Nice Group shot - courtesy of Joe himself!!!

Baby Jude gets a Little Gina cuddle - looks like he is about to take a bite out of her. Watch out Gina his gums are sharp.

Drawing to a close.

A few social beers were had.

A great meal was had with great friends and of course my family.

Thank you all. Great times!!!

Oh man are we ever loving Siglap!!!

OK OK we have not moved yet but we're starting to do more and more there - you know get the feel of the place. Get to know the place and all that. You know the kind of thing.

Today was much of the same. Local food court has a music session on. So down we go with, hopefully, our new neighbours - The Rutherford's to explore and enjoy that experience. And man oh man it was banging. Like being in London burbs with all cool bars and bistros but we're in Siglap, we're at a hawker and bugger me we're listening to The Specials - SKA hits Siglap.

It was AWESOME!!!

Some pictorials for you all. Fun all the way.

Here is the venue - a literal 2 minute stop from where we hope to move to in April. Literally a walk round the corner. To LTN or EC 936. What a place it is!!!

The Popiah is reputed to be the best in Singapore.
I have to say I might even agree with this as it was a belter.
We had one with and one without chilli - bring on the chilli for me please.
HUGE queue - always a good sign.

Jude clearly very happy with what we were doing today.

My Mary the same - very happy smily face.

Actually I think Jude REALLY REALLY liked what we were doing today. Very cute baby Jude.

Amy's chicken rice was best I have eaten in 7 years living in Singapore.
What next, can it get better?

This local beverage in green bottles seems to flow fast and furious with ladies coming up and pouring said liquid for you just before your glass empties. And in each of these green bottles you get 1.5 pints. And 1.5 pints, even with the 25% increase on tax, equates to $7. Yep $7, not $15 at Boat Quay.

OMG I am loving this place more and more.

Then the band rock up.
Uber cool guys, announcing themselves as Afrobean in style - what the hell's that?
We shall find out soon.

Sophia took most of these photos actually.
Thanks Sophia - my partner in crime.

Pia clearly is also having fun fun fun!!!

Baby Jude took a moment - hmmmmm says he...

Fraie, Frayer, Freer, Froyer, Freeier, Fraaaya - OMG OK OK Freya...
Ha Ha Ha.
Not quite what sure is happening here, but I won't be eating what she's eating.

Or what Steve is eating or drinking either...
Something in the water or something that runs in the family clearly!!!

The band commences.
The band commences with SKA.
The band sounded like the icons - The Specials, Madness, Special AKA etc. AMAZING.

The sun started to set.
The green bottles tipped.
We listened and tapped feet to SKA rhythms echoing down Siglap.
We laughed a lot.
We had such fun.
We ate like King's and Queens.
We were with our friends.

It truly doesn't get much better.
I really think we are going to LOVE living here!!!
